How to Add Product Videos to WooCommerce

A practical guide to planning, adding and testing product video in a WooCommerce gallery.

Product video can give shoppers context that still images cannot: movement, scale, texture or a closer view of a useful detail. The most effective video has a specific job in the purchase decision.

Decide what the video should explain

Start with the question a customer needs answered. A short demonstration, close-up detail or view of the product in use is often more valuable than a general promotional clip.

Choose a suitable source

  • Use a Vimeo-hosted video when Vimeo is already part of your publishing workflow.
  • Use a direct MP4 URL when the store needs to use a self-hosted MP4 file.
  • Keep the video relevant to the product and position it alongside the images shoppers need.

Plan for the gallery

Place video where customers can find it without losing access to key product images. Review the main product page, thumbnail navigation and any expanded gallery view on desktop and mobile.

Review performance and privacy

Use only the media needed for the product decision. When using a third-party video provider, review the provider’s terms and the store’s own privacy information before publishing embedded video.

Test before publishing

Confirm the video opens as expected, the chosen playback behaviour is appropriate and the surrounding product media remains easy to browse.
